Pastor Cockrell, the son of Bruce and Lavada Cockrell, Sr., is a native Houstonian.  He graduated from M. B. Smiley High School (1984), where he was active in the music and athletic department.  He received Christ as his personal Savior during his 10th grade year and became a member of Praise Community Choir.  As a member of Praise he traveled the country singing the good news of Jesus Christ.  It as a member of this organization, where he saw hundreds of souls won to Christ, that he developed a strong Christian foundation and a thirst & hunger for righteousness.

Pastor Cockrell, received an Associate Degree in Business Management from Blinn College and then went on to the University of Missouri where he became the model athlete and meet he wife of 17 years, Lorinda.  His athletic career included Track & Field (constantly making the local and even national newspapers) and a brief stint in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Raiders.  Looking back on the events of his professional football career, Pastor Cockrell will tell you that God intervene on his behalf changing his course because He had a better plan for his life!

Prior to joining Christ Worship Center he was member of New Light (Pastor I. V. Hillard) and Sonrise Fellowship Church (Pastor Edward Buford) both which have contributed greatly to the caliber of servant he is to the Body of Christ.  He is known as a man’s man!  God has given him a unique ability to instruct brothers on life and in righteousness.  He is a model servant - supervisor at Southeastern Freight Lines, where he has been employed for 10 years, husband and father (four daughters—Janae Strickland, Precious Cockrell and two Christ sent daughters Sharmon and Tamela Tubbs).
