Born Edward Lee Johnson, Jr., Bishop Johnson is a native Houstonian. He is the son of Deacon Edward and Erma Johnson, Sr. He attended M. B. Smiley High School and Texas Southern University. Bishop (as he is affectionately called) is the husband of Evangelist Marilyn Johnson and proud father of Chas Braxton, Christal Joi and Edward Lee, III. His family life along with being the founder and Sr. Pastor of World Christian Church, Inc. keeps him quite busy.
Bishop Johnson is known for his wise council. Frequently, he is found in private consultations with members of the five-fold, instructing them on church protocol, vision development, and spiritually discerning their house and ministries. Bishop Johnson is extremely hard on leadership. He says, “We can’t afford to be cavalier in this matter seeing that God has entrusted the spiritual growth and development of His people to this select group.” Bishop Johnson preaches a disciplined word coupled with accountability. The message is not just for the sheep, but also for the leadership of the Body of Christ. Moving in the apostolic and prophetic offices, the Bishop is presently geared up for national and international crusades. He says he is doing this to empower the people of God and restore the paths to dwell in according to Isaiah 58:12.
Along with delivering the preached Word, Bishop Johnson is an accomplished musician. He has recorded eleven albums and produced numerous others. He has appeared on stage with Shirley Caesar, Vickie Winans, Yolanda Adams, Kim Burrell, Barbara Tucker, John P. Kee, Kirk Franklin and the list goes on. In the early 90’s, he formed a group [Ed Johnson & Praise] that attained prominence with the original recording of “Where Are The Christian?” That year at the Texas Gospel Music Awards they were nominated in three categories winning two, group of the year and song of the year. Bishop Johnson has recently formed a new singing-ministry, “Prophetic Praise.” A recording from this group is scheduled for release in late 2002 or early 2003. It will qualify the fact that the music-ministry of Bishop Johnson lives on.
The love that Bishop Johnson has for God is evident in the manner he handles God’s people. He is always seeking ways to establish the people of God in the service of God. The work of Bishop Johnson does not end there. He is an entrepreneur and soon-to-be published author. He is a husband, a father, a pastor, a businessman, a musician, a visionary and a man that loves and fears God.
