Synopsis for the Criminal Mind Class
Title: It Takes a Mind to Study the Mind
Problem to be Addressed: The Developmental Stages of a Criminal Mind
Why the Need: Crime by teens and young adults are at an all-time high in the United States and abroad.
The Main Objective: To offset or completely eliminate the development of criminal minds in teens and young adults by studying the components of the brain and its functions.
The Methodology: Study and learn functions of the brain which creates the mind we used to make decisions in life.
Teaching Materials to Be Used: Brain prototype, Chapter 5 “The Introduction to Brain Structure and Basic Function” from the book, “Criminals in the Making: Criminality across the Life” by John Paul Wright, Stephen G. Tibbetts & Leah E. Daigle, and the Bible.
Audience: This class is designed primarily for parents of incarcerated or previously incarcerated children (youths and/or adults) who are interested in discovering how a criminal mind develops, functions, and operates through the study of the brain. The class will be equally helpful for individuals who have did time in prison, the county jail or who are currently on parole, probation or involved in juvenile systems. Law enforcement members are encouraged to attend as well.
Instructor: Vincent Haywood
About the Instructor: Vincent Haywood served eleven consecutive years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice System where he harnessed the need to further educate himself. He received an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts while serving time in prison. Began his Master’s in Psychology at the University of Houston-Clear Lake while serving time and later resumed his studies in psychology upon exiting prison at the aforementioned school.
Vincent later became a licensed/ordained minister, where he’s now a member of Christ Worship Center under the leadership of Apostle Ed Johnson and Pastor Marilyn Johnson.
